Panasonic D-Snap SV-AV25 camcorder/MP3 player
Date Published: 3/27/07
The SV-AV25 is a midrange model in Panasonic's D-Snap line of pocket multifunction camcorders. The size of a cell phone, the SV-AV25 has two conveniently located record buttons, so it can be used horizontally or vertically to shoot MPEG4 video or digital still photos. Both video and stills are recorded to SD memory card, although Panasonic only includes an 8MB card with the unit. When considering the SV-AV25, it is wise to factor in the cost of a larger SD card. For example, a 128MB card will allow users to record 15 minutes of video in superfine mode or 50 minutes in normal mode, which is a huge increase over the capacity of the included 8MB card.
The SV-AV25 captures JPEG digital still images at a maximum resolution of 1,600X1,200. Like the SV-AV50, this model features a 2.5X digital zoom and a 2-inch flip-out LCD monitor that is bright and sharp enough to make framing shots and reviewing material effortless. The compact design and light weight make this a true pocket-sized camcorder that is ideal for traveling. Despite its size, the SV-AV25 also seems surprisingly sturdy.
Of course, the SV-AV25 is a multifunction device, so it does more than just record video and stills. By slipping in a memory card loaded with digital music files and connecting the included earphones, the SV-AV25 doubles as a digital audio player able to handle MP3, WMA, and AAC files. The unit also offers a built-in microphone for recording voice memos, interviews, and personal reminders. Ultimately, the SV-AV25 is an eye-catching gadget rather than a camcorder for recording serious home movies. It is a fun device that excels more in terms of ease of use and convenience than in image or audio quality.
