Panasonic CQ-D5501U auto DVD/CD player
Date Published: 7/19/05
The Panasonic CQ-D5501U is an interesting new product. Although it can serve as an in-dash multimedia center, this unit doesn't include a video monitor. In fact, Panasonic doesn't recommend adding a video display for the front-seat passengers; for safety reasons, it is suggested that an overhead or headrest monitor(s) be used for this system.
The CQ-D5501U is a single-DIN receiver capable of playing DVD-Video, as well as CD, CD-R/RW, and MP3 and WMA files burned to disc. The CQ-D5501U will downmix the surround Dolby Digital signals to provide a stereo output fed to the four output channels. The integrated CEA-2006 compliant amplifier provides 18 watts into four channels, or the pre-amp outputs and a separate subwoofer output can be used in conjunction with a selectable low-pass filter of either 80Hz or 120Hz.
The CQ-D5501U uses a very slick motorized faceplate with a three-position tilt that flips open to reveal the disc slot, allowing plenty of room on the front panel for display information. The CQ-D5501U has six preset equalizer curves and a three-band semi-parametric equalizer for customizing the sound. Since no one should watch DVD movies while driving anyway, the CQ-D5501U is Panasonic's simple solution to letting drivers and passengers enjoy all of their favorite discs, no matter what the format.Warranty
