The Panasonic CQ-C5401U is one of the simplest ways to add MP3 capabilities to a car audio system. This CD receiver can play CD-R/RW recorded with MP3 and WMA files. The unit is also XM-ready, and it includes an AM/FM receiver.
The integrated MOSFET amplifier provides 18 watts (average) into four channels, and it has 5-volt pre-amp outputs for connecting an external amplifier. There is also a low-pass filter. Although this is a relatively basic head unit, it has a three-band graphic equalizer and five preset equalization curves.
The CQ-C5401U features a motorized faceplate that moves to reveal the CD slot. The included auxiliary input allows the quick connection of an XM tuner or CD changer, and the head unit has CD changer controls.
