Palm TX PDA
Date Published: 11/3/06
Unless you are a hardcore PDA user, Palm's TX has all the features you will likely ever need. This includes a bright screen, good storage capacity and impressive connectivity, all in a handheld that retails for less than $300.
The TX offers built-in 802.11b Wi-Fi, so you can browse the internet or check your e-mail at most any wireless hotspot. There is also Bluetooth 1.1, which lets you synch your data to a Bluetooth-capable PC. It also enables you to quickly and easily connect Bluetooth peripherals.
The features of the TX extend beyond connectivity options. The large 320X480-resolution screen stretches nearly four inches diagonally, and it delivers sharp text and vivid colors. You can switch between landscape and portrait mode at the touch of a button, letting you view images and web pages in the optimal format.
Core power is solid, with a 312MHz Intel processor and 128MB of memory, 100MB of which is user-accessible. This gives you a decent amount of storage space for data files and contacts. If you'll be housing a lot of multimedia files, you'll want to pick up a memory card or two, and this PDA supports SD and MMC formats. This is important, as the TX can play MP3 and video files and comes with an image viewer.
The dark color scheme of the TX is unique for this market, but it works well with the large and vibrant screen. Even with the big screen (relatively speaking), the TX measures only about 3X5 inches and approximately 3/5 of an inch thick. As it weighs just over 5 ounces, it's easy to tuck into a coat pocket without feeling burdened.
Battery life is good, with the PDA running over 5 hours before needing to be recharged. The TX ships with DataViz's Documents to Go, so the TX can handle Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files on the road.
If you're looking for a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth PDA with a long list of features and good core power, the Palm TX has what you need at a very appealing price.
