Outlaw Audio RR2150 stereo receiver
Date Published: 10/13/08
The Outlaw Audio RR2150 features a wildly retro design that will either be loved or hated. Chances are you'll love it, because it is such a welcome change from all the look-alike receivers out there. However, before purchasing the RR2150, make sure you consider how its bold silver facade will appear when placed in a stack with your other gear.
This high-performance stereo receiver has a two-channel amplifier rated at 100 watts per channel (average) into 8 ohms or 160 watts into 4 ohms. There is a phono input for turntables, as well as an AM/FM tuner. The bass tone control is centered at 50Hz, and the treble control is centered at 1kHz. The RR2150 has an analog bass management filter adjustable to 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, or bypass, and the high-pass and low-pass slopes are both fixed at 12dB/octave.
One of the RR2150's unusual but very welcome features is a USB port for playback of streaming audio from compatible components. Other perks include a front-panel bass boost control, A/B speaker output, a trigger for use as a pre-amplifier (when connected with an external amplifier), a programmable remote, and a front-panel mini-jack input for connecting devices such as portable digital audio players.
Most receivers available today have moved beyond stereo to multichannel surround sound playback. Nevertheless, there are still many applications where a high-quality stereo receiver is preferable. The Outlaw Audio RR2150 is ideal for those situations, and the cool styling gives it a definite advantage over the competition.
