Orion Vista 10x50

The Orion Vista 10x50 is one of three binoculars in the Vista series. It has the highest magnification in the group and is as prized for viewing the night sky as it is for viewing landscapes and wildlife.
The Vista binoculars use a porro prism design, resulting in what is commonly called a standard or classic binocular. The prism uses the finest BAK-4 glass and is fully multi-coated. All glass-to-air surfaces are further treated with a full multi-coating to reduce reflection and increase apparent brightness.
The Vista 10x50 is surprisingly lightweight for its size, weighing in at just 28 ounces. Arm fatigue is a real problem with large binoculars, especially those with high magnifications. Slight arm movements can cause the view in the binoculars to jump and move around radically, making it difficult to view distant birds or heavenly bodies. But we found the Vista 10x50 easy to handhold, and quickly appreciated its lightweight design. A tripod might be useful for long viewing sessions; the Vista is ready with a built-in tripod mount point.
The Vista easily accommodates eyeglasses, with its fold-down, rubber-cupped eyepieces and 16mm eye relief. The diopter markings on the eyepiece are bold white, so they're easy to see. They also make it easy to return to your preferred setting if you share the binoculars with others.
Looking through the Vista's optics, you will see a 5.3-degree field of view that is bright and free of flare or reflections. The Vista produces a bright image well into dusk, clearly demonstrating its light-gathering ability. We found little astigmatism when we viewed the night sky; stars appear as clean, single points of light, with little or no false coloring.
The Vista uses a knurled, rubberized focus knob centered between the prisms. This is the classic placement, but we found the focus action a bit stiff, requiring more finger pressure than we like. On the other hand, we never experienced focus creep, which can happen with some inexpensive binoculars.
The Orion Vista 10x50 has a rugged yet lightweight design, with a high power magnification that is ideal for multiple uses.
