Onkyo DV-CP702
Date Published: 11/2/04
An updated version of the DV-CP701, Onkyo's DV-CP702 is an extremely versatile DVD changer. While most carousel changers offer a five-disc tray, the DV-CP702 goes one better, handling up to six DVD and/or CD at a time. Unlike the previous model, there's no spinning sound while the discs play on the DV-CP702, and the tray shuffles quietly between discs, although not as quickly as comparable changers. The extra disc tray, however, means up to five discs can be changed while the sixth continues to play. Picture quality from the DV-CP702's progressive scan output is excellent. DVD images appear without video noise, jagged lines, or other artifacts, and colors are rich and vibrant. Detail rendition is also impressive, even in heavily shadowed areas of the picture. Audio output from the DV-CP702 is superior to most other players priced around $200, whether the changer is connected to a full-function A/V receiver or merely relies on the TV's built-in speakers. The DV-CP702 offers built-in Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, aimed at those who already have 5.1 channel inputs in their audio systems and don't want to invest in a separate decoder to experience the rich surround sound produced by this model. The Onkyo DV-CP702 comes in a choice of black or silver finishes, enabling the changer to blend in with any home theater setup or equipment rack. The sharp styling is matched by the player's versatility. The DV-CP702 can handle DVD-R/RW in addition to DVD-Video. It is also compatible with VCD and CD-R, along with a variety of digital media. It plays CD encoded with WMA and MP3 music files, and it can display a digital slideshow when loaded with JPEG picture CD. Other features include random CD playback, multispeed slow motion and reverse, and a resume playback function. This is a smart-looking unit that delivers high-quality video and audio performance.
