Nikon Speedlite SB600 hot shoe flash
Date Published: 5/10/05
The Nikon Speedlite SB600 is an advanced hot-shoe flash that's compatible both with newer iTTL dedication for digital cameras and TTL dedication with Nikon SLR film cameras.
It can be used (with the supplied stand) for wireless, completely automatic dedicated slave flash operation with some models of Nikon cameras. Four frequency channels prevent the flashes used by other photographers from accidentally firing this slave.
A built-in modeling light lets you preview the effects of the flash lighting. A large, informative LCD on the back provides essential operating data needed when using advanced optional mode adjustments. All of the controls on the back are both large and exceptionally well marked for easy identification and use.
A positive lock on the base ensures the flash will remain in place when attached to the camera. A handy diffusion panel is permanently attached to the top of the flash head. It pulls out and down to spread the light so that it will cover the area included by an ultra wide-angle 14mm lens.
Test prints with the Nikon Speedlite SB600 had very even lighting on subjects shot with wide-angle 28mm lenses, and the light was evenly spread across other focal lengths also. Exposures were correct both indoors when used as the main light source and outdoors in daylight for fill lighting. The bounce exposures were also illuminated properly.
