MTX Thunder3401 car subwoofer amplifier

Some products choose style over substance, emphasizing over-the-top flair instead of performance. The MTX Thunder3401 manages to look hot while performing very well, staying just under the "over the top" line, but not by much.
The Thunder3401 is a single-channel Class D amplifier designed to function best as a subwoofer amplifier. It is rated at 200 watts (continuous) at 4 ohms or 400 watts at 2 ohms, both into one channel. This is a unique amp in that it can be mounted in a vertical position, so it doesn't take up nearly as much space on the floor of the vehicle. It has a continuously variable cooling fan, part of the XTC (Xtant Technology Cooling) system that moves air over all components based on internal temperatures.
What is really special with the Thunder3401 is the PrizmEFX lighting that lets users select a base illumination color from a practically infinite selection. The amp will either glow with just that color or flash along with the music.
The Thunder3401 has high- and low-level inputs. The low-pass filter is variable from 40Hz to 200Hz, with a 24dB/octave slope. There is a bass boost of 0dB to 18dB, centered at 40Hz. The Thunder3401 might be just the ticket to add a flash of inspiration to a vehicle sound system.
