Mountain Hardwear Switch +20 synthetic sleeping bag

Date Published: 2/7/07

The Mountain Hardwear Switch +20 is a very cost-effective synthetic sleeping bag, designed for non-critical camping and hiking. However, it provides features such as an expandable draft tube that offer flexibility.

The Switch synthetic sleeping bag uses Thermolite Extra insulation; it provides good loft with reasonably low weight. Down bags provide greater warmth with less weight, but unlike down bags, synthetic bags retain insulating properties even when damp. The Switch synthetic sleeping bag's mummy shape saves weight by trimming at the head, hips and feet. Normally, some sleepers might find this fit to be too confining; however, the Expander feature lets you unzip at the draft tube to provide an extra 8 inches of girth. The Switch synthetic sleeping bag 's hood uses a four-panel construction and a face gasket to help trap in heat.

The footbox uses a trapezoidal cut to help maintain loft and give a comfortable fit. The Switch synthetic sleeping bag has quilted stitching to eliminate sewn-through seams and the potential cold spots they create. The draft tube is insulated and runs the length of the two-way, full-length zipper. Backing material helps resist zipper snags, and the zipper can be locked in intermediate positions for ventilation. The Switch synthetic sleeping bag also offers tie-in loops to connect to an upgrade liner (not included). The Switch synthetic sleeping bag comes with a stuff sack, and comes in a sapphire color.

The Mountain Hardwear Switch synthetic sleeping bag is not designed for cold winter nights, and it is certainly not the lightest weight bag around, but it will keep you warm in three seasons, and even when it is damp. The "Switch" feature that lets you choose a large girth gives it even more added versatility.

Pros: Expandable for larger hikers
Cons: Heavy without a corresponding increase in warmth

Warranty
lifetime, free from defects in materials and workmanship
