Motorola V365 PTT Gibraltar Mobile Phone

Date Published: 10/30/07

The Motorola V365 Mobile phone is a low-priced offering with a few extra features.
Though the competition seems to be encroaching on their market share, one thing that Motorola offers that others don't is the Push-to-Talk feature. This allows users to immediately connect with other users. Unfortunately, this walkie-talkie style carries over to the design of the phone, being a rather beefy near-inch in thickness.

Despite the low price, the V365 has a few multimedia options loaded onto it. There is a VGA camera that has a 4x zoom and takes acceptable quality pictures with video available--and the length is only limited by the amount of memory you have. Busy professionals might be disappointed by the paltry 5MB of internal memory, but there is a memory slot. The phonebook can store 1000 entries, each of which can be assigned a distinctive ringer (including vibrating) or a photo, making for quick identification. However, the Photo ID only works on the interior screen and not the 1-inch monochrome LCD on the outside. The interior screen is 1.8 inches diagonally and supports 65K colors.

The keypad and toggle are relatively barebones, but the buttons are easy to operate in the dark. There is also an MP3 player on board, but its sound quality is rather disappointing. The clarity of phone calls, meanwhile, is good, although the speakerphone on the rear of the unit is not capable of projecting at high volumes.

The EDGE network offers high-speed downloading for the V365, but unfortunately the rates don't compare with that of 3G networks; if you choose to send video or picture files, there will be a wait. However, Bluetooth allows users to connect to peripherals and headsets with speed and ease. Battery life lasts for over 200 minutes of talk time and 212 hours of standby. Overall, the V365 is not a stellar phone, but its low price and reliable call clarity will satisfy many consumers.

Pros: price, Push-to-Talk feature, Bluetooth, call clarity
Cons: small internal memory, speakerphone, monochrome external LCD
