Motorola KRZR K1 GSM Mobile Phone
Date Published: 7/17/07
The Motorola KRZR K1 mobile phone is a very sleek and attractive product with a few good features. Style, however, is definitely the focus here, and with its 0.6" thickness and glossy metallic finish, the quad-band phone is undeniably eye-catching. Unfortunately, its shiny surfaces also catch glare and fingerprints. Otherwise, the ergonomics are good, with buttons that are a bit small but are raised and well spaced. At 65K colors, the external display is vibrant but sometimes difficult to read in heavy light, but because the internal display is larger (1.9") and better (262K colors), the former's flaws are quickly forgiven.
The camera takes good 2-megapixel images and has an impressive 8x zoom but, unfortunately, there is no flash. Videos are of surprisingly good quality, but even more impressive is that the phone can store up to 25 minutes in its internal memory. And if you need more space, there is a microSD slot that can accommodate 2GB cards.
The MicroSD cards work with the embedded MP3 player as well. Once you have loaded your music files, they can be transferred or shared through Bluetooth, the mini USB port, or the high-speed EDGE network. An e-mail client is also built-in.
The address book can hold 1000 contacts and the SIM card can hold an additional 250. Each of these contacts can then be assigned a distinctive ringer (vibrating, polyphonic, or photo ID). A speakerphone is also supported that allows for voice dialing and simple commands.
Call quality is decent, though at times a little static is heard, and the Li-ion battery delivers about 5 hours of talk time and between 200 - 310 hours of standby before recharging in required. Overall this is a fairly solid phone with good performance, but its stylishness is definitely the strongest selling point.
Pros: stylish design, thin, EDGE network compatibility, 2-megapixel camera, good video, ease of use
Cons: prone to smudges and glare, no camera flash
