If one LED lights up, the signal is usable but weak. Each successive illuminated LED indicates a stronger signal, with four LEDs being the strongest. Unfortunately, the WiFi Signal Locator can't tell you if the detected hotspot is encrypted, but for its size and price point, that's a minor inconvenience at best.
