Mitsubishi WD-73833 833 Diamond Series Line 73-inch DLP HDTV
Date Published: 8/14/07
The Mitsubishi WD-73833 is a stylish set with a Black Pearl high-gloss finish, a soft blue light and a compact casing that means more picture in less space. The Diamond line is Mitsubishi's premier brand of high quality displays, and this is their largest DLP available on the market. Yet the 73-inch set is still under 100 lbs., and is less than a foot and half deep.
All of Mitsubishi's DLP sets are built around the company's 6-color light engine technology, and this 1080p set also features the Smooth120Hz to minimize motion blur during in sports and other fast moving action scenes. The WD-73833 uses Color 4D video noise reduction, and the TurboLight180 lamp system and Plush1080p processing to produce bright and vibrant images, with rich colors and true blacks.
We were impressed by some of the other advanced color features including the PerfectColor and PerfecTint, which further ensure spectacular color processing. A/V adjustments are memorized by input, as are the color temperature control, so you will not have to worry about needing to adjust the set when you change video sources. There are six picture form modes for 4:3 and two for 16:9 sources, while concerns such as static image retention or other ghosting issues won't affect this set.
The WD-73833 also features the new x.v.Color standard for HDTV. This is something that most users probably won't be able to take full advantage of yet, as there are still few sources that yet support it. As with other Mitsubishi sets that offer x.v.Color, we think it is still a good addition to have, and it does not detract from the WD-73833 at all, but it shouldn't be a make or break decision when considering this model.
As the top of the line from Mitsubishi, this set has more connections that a Hollywood super agent. This includes three rear HDMI 1.3 inputs, as well as an additional HDMI input in the front. There are two rear component inputs with stereo connections, along with another front component video input. This set includes a Firewire IEEE 1394 connection for playback and recording from external devices such as a camcorder, plus it offers front USB input that can be used with up to 5 megapixel photos from a USB drive. Additional inputs include rear dual S-Video/composite video and stereo inputs, as well as composite and stereo output. This model includes a Dolby Digital/PCM coaxial audio output that makes the connecting of multiple HD components to the home entertainment system a snap. And this set can also be connected to a PC through a rear RGB/RS-232C input as well.
For movies and TV the built-in twin speakers, which are located at the bottom of the casing so as not to detract from the sleek frame of the set, provides a reasonably powerful 10 watts of power each. The partially illuminated universal remote control is easy to program and it supports up to five devices, including DVD players and cable set top boxes, while NetCommand will give you easy control over your home theater. This line features TV Guide On Screen.
When used with a PC the Diamond WD-73833 is the ultimate game machine as well. You'll be truly immersed into the experience, as this set is Game FX 3D game compatible. We thought that action looked incredible, and this did truly bring gaming to a new dimension. Although pricey this might be the worth skipping that expensive vacation, and instead just spend the time off enjoying this set.
