Mitsubishi WD-62528 62-inch HDTV

Date Published: 10/26/07

The WD-62528 is a 62-inch HDTV from Mitsubishi that uses rear-projection LCD technology to provide a rich and detailed picture in a relatively compact cabinet.

The cabinet has a slice of silver trim running horizontally across the base, separating the bezel from the area containing stereo speakers and front-panel audio/video/S-video inputs. Twin analog tuners and an ATSC digital tuner combine with PIP features to provide a wide range of viewing options, including split-screen, a still or active PIP window, or three windows for previewing other channels. The WD-62528 is digital cable-ready, with a CableCARD slot present to potentially eliminate a separate cable box.

Analog content received by the WD-62528 is up-converted and adapted to the 1,280X720 screen, so all content is displayed at 720p. Standard programming can be displayed in any of six picture format modes, while widescreen images can be shown in either of two formats.

The stereo speakers produce 10 watts of audio output per channel, and the audio system can be configured to keep the volume steady and eliminate loud bursts from commercials or during channel changes. An 8-day interactive program guide is built into the WD-62528, making it easy to select and tune to programs of interest.

This set also offers NetCommand, a system that integrates various components for unified control using on-screen icons. Other convenience features include parental V-chip controls, a sleep timer, and channel and input labeling.

The rear panel of the WD-62528 is generously endowed with connections for just about any complementary audio/video device, with two RF inputs, two audio/video/S-video inputs, three component video inputs, two HDMI inputs with DVI stereo audio, two IEEE 1394 (FireWire) connectors, a coaxial digital audio output, and two NetCommand/G-Link IR emitters, among others. The remote control can be used to manage any associated components, with fully illuminating buttons for hassle-free nighttime use.

The WD-62528 provides outstanding control of the picture and the colors. Colors are customizable to user preferences, with six basic colors available for fine-tuning. Two color temperatures can be preset for each input source, enabling the 62-inch Mitsubishi WD-62528 to memorize the optimal settings for each component individually.
