Mitsubishi WD-52528 52-inch HDTV

Date Published: 10/26/07

Mitsubishi's WD-52528 is a widescreen 52-inch TV powered by rear-projection LCD technology, with two customized presets for bright or natural light conditions, making it easy to adjust the picture as the light in the room changes.

The WD-52528 boasts an internal HD tuner, CableCARD slot, and a rich array of features and connection options. All content is displayed at 720p, with 480i and 480p programming up-converted to the set's native resolution of 1,280X720. The picture is lively and detailed, with adequate brightness across the screen. In addition to multiple color presets, six colors can be manual adjusted.

The set's two internal speakers produce a total of 20 watts of audio output, and automatic sound leveling eliminates sudden shifts of volume when moving from a program to commercials or from station to station. Standard analog content, including DVD, can be displayed in any of six picture formats, while high-definition content can be viewed in either of two formats. Movies are adapted for TV viewing using 3:2 pulldown conversion, which smoothes out the action in fast-moving scenes.

Other convenience features include memory for picture settings for each input source, as well as access to TV Guide On-Screen, which lists 8 days of upcoming programs. The rear connection options are very generous on the WD-52528, with two RF inputs, two audio/video/S-video inputs, two component video inputs, two HDMI inputs with DVI audio, two IEEE 1394 (FireWire) connectors, a coaxial digital audio output, and two NetCommand & G-Link connectors. The NetCommand system can be used to control associated components using on-screen icons and menus rather than relying on particular buttons on the universal remote.

One of the best things this unit offers is twin tuners with picture-in-picture, split-screen, and picture-out-of-picture options that are quite flexible. The Mitsubishi WD-52528 produces a pair of high-definition sources simultaneously, and the PIP window can be moved or swapped with the big screen.
