Mitsubishi WD-52525 52-inch DLP HDTV
Date Published: 10/26/07
Mitsubishi's stunning WD-52525 is a 52-inch rear-projection HDTV that utilizes digital light processing (DLP) to produce a bright, high-resolution picture in a compact cabinet. In addition to an excellent picture, the WD-52525 is extremely versatile, with a PC link, a CableCARD slot, and four memory card slots. Framed in black, the wide-format screen with removable protective shield sits above a silver base that holds stereo speakers. Easy-access A/V/S-video and memory card inputs are hidden behind a small door.
The picture is impressively sharp and clear, with rich colors and plenty of detail. All sources are displayed at 720p, and a 480-line motion-adaptive 3-D Y/C digital comb filter eliminates jagged edges and rainbow effects that sometimes occur through the RF or A/V inputs. Movies are automatically displayed in film mode to ensure smooth action, and the picture can be configured in either of two modes for widescreen content and six modes for standard content. This TV has a number of high-end features, including an on-screen channel guide that updates while the TV is off, storing up to 12 hours of program information (as available for certain digital channels).
With twin tuners built in, this model can display digital and analog content as well as cable content without any extra components being added. Split-screen, picture-in-picture, and three or nine windows of POP viewing expand the functionality of the WD-52525. When connected to a computer via the rear-panel PC input, a TV show can even be monitored while surfing the Internet.
Using the WD-52525's two IR emitters and three FireWire connections, multiple home theater components can be networked into an integrated NetCommand system so that all components can be controlled through the TV. The internal stereo speakers produce 10 watts of audio output per channel, and there is the option of adding additional speakers using the stereo audio outputs or connecting to an A/V receiver via the digital audio output. Additional rear connections include two A/V/S-video inputs, three component video inputs (two analog, one digital), one PC input, and one HDMI input. Digital photos and video can be viewed using the four front-panel memory card slots, which accommodate five different formats. The universal remote control has an intuitive configuration, and the buttons illuminate when needed.
