Miele S4 Galaxy Series S4210 compact canister
Date Published: 11/10/06
Well-designed machines, the S4 Galaxy Series S4210 compact canisters from Miele can stand on their own merits without the distracting comparison to constellations. Although entertaining, the names given to each machine don't tell us a thing other than the fact that each vacuum is a different color. When it comes to features and performance Carina, Antares, Capella and Sirius are all identical.
In spite of the galactic confusion, these models are among the best quality and highest priced compact canisters available. Ideal for European-style homes with lots of hard flooring and area rugs, you won't want to plan on using the S4210 on typical thick-pile American wall-to-wall carpeting. For that situation, move on to a good quality powerhead machine.
On the other hand, if you don't require a powerhead and don't mind the price, consider Carina in light melon yellow, Antares in brilliant mango red, Capella in rich royal blue or Sirius in bright electric blue. Each offers dial controlled suction power to prevent over-vacuuming and pulling of valuable area rugs from the floor. This vacuum system is sealed and includes a super air-clean filter that prevents dust from leaking out into the air.
All dust is collected in an IntensiveClean Plus disposable dustbag that is as heavy and impressive as it is expensive. The bag even offers a fold-over flap to keep all the dirt inside, where it belongs. Accessories for this compact canister include a high-quality floor/carpet tool, a metal wand and three hand tools that are all mounted onboard by an accessory clip. If price is no object and longevity, quality and solid performance are what you're looking for, then Miele's S4210 is the compact canister for you.
Pros: Dial controlled suction power, great for hard wood floors, IntensiveClean Plus disposable dustbag
Cons: Pricey, not great for carpets
