Miele Antares S4210 with STB205-2 Turbobrush
Date Published: 7/3/08
The Miele Antares S4210 is a powerful canister vacuum that comes with an equally powerful accessory: The STB205-2 Turbobrush.
The 11-inch turbo brush attachment is especially adept at tackling problem areas. It has a cushioned front to protect furniture from dings. We tested the turbo brush on high traffic areas, upholstery and pet hair. Its performance was impressive. Not only did it pick up pet hair, but it also removed small and large debris from furniture and carpets. It even left high traffic areas looking more refreshed. It isn't practical to vacuum entire rooms with an accessory tool, however, so we gave the vacuum itself a thorough workout. The main nozzle works quite well; it offered results similar to the turbo brush. We'd prefer that the nozzle was equipped with edge-cleaning bristles, which makes cleaning near baseboards and under cabinets much more efficient. The Miele's adjustable suction feature is a nice touch. It allows us to dial in the correct amount of suction for the task. If we're vacuuming curtains, for example, we turned down the Miele's suction for best results.
The Miele also comes with a bare floor tool, and it performed well on hardwood floors, tile and other hard surfaces. The bare floor tool, which is the Parquet Floor Brush SBB300-3, didn't blow dust around and had plenty of suction. Plus, it has a 90-degree rotation to make it easier to clean in tight spaces. We would have preferred the inclusion of additional tools, such as a crevice tool.
The Antares S4210 is a mid-range product in Miele's S4 Galaxy series and comes in four attractive canister colors: red, blue, yellow and royal blue. The canister uses a disposable bag system to collect debris, as well as a HEPA filtration system. A flexible hose connects the canister to the main nozzle (or one of the attachment nozzles). We like the built-in wand holder, which makes moving the Antares from room to room a snap. It also has a built-in carrying handle. It also has an indicator light that alerts the user when the bag is full. This is a nice feature and saves us the hassle of opening the canister to periodically check the bag.
Overall, we like the Miele Antares S4210 for its powerful suction, adjustable features and the inclusion of two useful tools.
Pros: Powerful adjustable suction, turbo brush tool, bare floor tool
Cons: Price, only two tools included
