Miele Advanta G2170SCVi dishwasher
Date Published: 4/25/08
With a price tag of about $1,200, we were surprised to learn the Miele Advanta G2170SCVi dishwasher is one of the most inexpensive models this brand offers. Still, the ability to customize this dishwasher's exterior with a cabinet panel may be worth the extra cost, particularly in a high-end kitchen. This model also can accept a stainless steel front or a black front for an additional cost.
While we understand the appeal of a custom look, it's important to note the dishwasher market is full of less expensive dishwashers that also accept custom panels to match kitchen cabinets. So the real question is: How does the Miele Advanta perform? It works like a champ, but lacks some features we'd expect to find at this price point.
Although the European design of this dishwasher makes it a water- and energy-miser, the end result is dishes, glasses and flatware that are clean, clean, clean. The Miele Advanta has a stainless steel interior tub and three spray arms that shoot water in multiple directions. It has six cycles and five water temperature options. The wash cycles include a quick wash, heavy-duty wash and a quick wash. It has an internal heating element to superheat water for a high-temperature wash. We particularly like the Miele Advanta's three-rack system. There are top and bottom racks, as well as a cutlery tray, and as a result, we were able to take advantage of its impressive capacity. The trays are adjustable and include fold-down tines for maximum efficiency when placing oddly shaped or large items in the dishwasher.
We were disappointed to discover that the Miele Advanta lacked a built-in food disposal. Although we didn't run into a problem with food particles, we anticipate this could be a problem during long-term use as debris builds up in the Miele's filter. It also lacks a delayed start and child-lock feature.
The Miele Advanta's control panel is hidden, which adds to its appeal, and it runs quietly. It has a tone that sounds to signal when a cycle is over, which can be helpful in the absence of visible controls. Even though it is a solid performer with a custom look, it's not at the top our must-have list. Why? There are far less expensive brands that can offer a custom-cabinet look. Plus, there are features that are missing in the Miele Advanta, such as a built-in food disposal.
Pros: Custom-cabinet front, hidden control panel
Cons: Lacks features that should be standard at this price-point
