Billed as a full-size model, the Super Stack measures 27 inches across -- the same width as a typical washing machine. But just because it's called full size, doesn't mean it is, so don't be fooled. This washer, although convenient for small spaces, will never handle as much laundry as a full-size model. In fact, this model has a washing capacity of just 2.6 cubic feet but a drying capacity of 5.9 cubic feet. Compare that with many of the newest models on the market, which easily accommodate 3.5-4.0 cubic feet, and you will see what we mean.

On the other hand, if you're limited on space or don't produce much laundry, this handy little washer/dryer combo can be just the ticket. Its reliable space-saving design has been used in apartments, mobile homes, closets and condos for years.

When it comes to washing, the MET3800TW/MGT3800TW offers four water levels complete with a sensor that prevents using more water than is absolutely necessary. Nine wash settings provide plenty options for washing whites, colors, permanent press fabrics, linens and even some delicates, although we'd hesitate to put our finest handwashables in this machine. Three spin speed combinations offer the basics we'd expect on a machine of this type. Temperature combinations include hot/cold, warm/cold and cold/cold. Dispensers for both bleach and fabric softener are included.

The attached dryer easily handles the amount of laundry the washer puts out. You can select from several dryness levels, and this is helpful for preventing the damage many dryers cause to clothes by over drying. The controls are very simple, yet can be expected to be reliable. Rotary knobs control everything on this model, so there are no fancy electronics that can be temperamental and break down.

Simple, basic and reliable, Maytag's MET3800TW/MGT3800TW is not the hottest, newest or even the most energy-efficient model you can buy, but it saves on space and is priced fairly for what it offers.
