Maytag Jetclean II MDB8751B dishwasher
Date Published: 4/26/07
In spite of all the new players in the dishwasher industry, Maytag remains one of the most reliable and most preferred dishwasher brands in America. With so many overpriced units are on the market, dollar for dollar and feature for feature, the MDB8751B is a particularly attractive purchase.
One of the many and popular Jetclean II models, the MDB8751B offers two racks instead of the three racks found in the top-of-the-line Jetclean III series. Of the Jetclean II models, we selected this one for its intermediate price and the inclusion of a corrosion-resistant stainless-steel interior.
Design-wise, this model is referred to as semi-integrated. This means that it doesn't have a full panel of touchpads, nor does it have a completely blank front door. Instead, the MDB8751B has a small, sleek display outside the dishwasher and a full set of controls hidden inside atop the door panel. In many ways, this is the best of both worlds. You can see which cycle is running, yet you have a fairly sleek design with an easy-clean button-free door.
The MDB8751B is fairly easy to load, although the upper rack is not adjustable. The silverware basket on this model is known as a split & fit, which means you can separate it into two parts to more easily fit it in where there is room. This model also includes a secondary basket for securing utensils in addition to silverware. If these two features are not important to you, consider purchasing a model lower in the Maytag line and save yourself some money.
Of the Jetclean II models, the MDB8751B has the most versatile delay timer. It can be set for 1-9 hours -- not just in intervals of 2/4/6 hour delays as with most other models. If controlling when your dishwasher runs is an important consideration, this may be a factor in your decision.
A quiet operator, this model is rated at 57 db. You can find quieter models, but you'll pay a bit more for the privilege. This model includes one of Maytag's sensor wash systems, which adjusts the cycle based on the soil detected on the dishes.
Unlike the most expensive Jetclean II model, the MDB8751B lacks 160-degree water heating capability, but does offer a sanitizing cycle. It is available in black, white, bisque or stainless steel; you can expect to pay a premium of $100 or more for the stainless-steel model.
Maytag's MDB8751B offers exceptional value for the premium features of quiet operation, functional design and tub durability. Obtaining service for this unit, should the need arise, can be expected to be fairly easy thanks to Maytag's extensive network of experienced service technicians.
Pros: Quiet operation, stainless-steel tub, versatile delay timer, sanitary cycle, offered in full range of colors
Cons: Lacks water heating to 160 degrees, upper rack not adjustable, does not have totally integrated control panel
