Marmot CWM EQ Reg down sleeping bag

Date Published: 2/7/07

The Marmot CWM EQ Reg is one of the most expensive, and one of the warmest, down sleeping bags on the market. It is overkill for all but the coldest conditions -- providing warmth down to a chilly -40 degrees Fahrenheit.

The CWM EQ Reg down sleeping bag uses 800 fill power goose down. This natural material provides an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio, but will lose its insulating properties when wet. The shell uses a coated Pertex Quantum material that is water resistant and breathable. The torso section of the CWM EQ Reg down sleeping bag uses nine tricot baffles running vertically in core to distribute down evenly (rolling from side to side will not shift the down). The hood uses six baffles integrated with the down-filled draft tube, along with a Velcro-free face muff that can be cinched for extra warmth.

The drawcords are differentiated --the upper cord is flat and the lower cord is round -- so you can adjust the hood by feel. The footbox uses eleven baffles and the area is reinforced to resist wear from boot liners or from water bottles stored there. Draft tube pockets use a unique inverting design so that small items can be kept warm inside the bag. Zipper guards resist snags, and the zippers are locking.

The CWM EQ Reg down sleeping bag comes with a nylon stuff sack, as well as a storage bag. This down sleeping bag is available in a red-hot chili color, and is available in both left- and right-side zippers. The Marmot CWM EQ Reg is not meant for casual weekend hikes; it is designed for high-altitude mountaineering and polar conditions, where warmth and lightweight are essential. This down sleeping bag will keep you toasty in even the coldest environments.

Pros: Extremely warm
Cons: Too warm for all but the coldest conditions
