Marantz SR7002 THX Select2 Surround Receiver
Date Published: 6/17/08Offering high power, high quality amplification and the latest in HD audio, the Marantz SR7002 is a powerhouse in both audio processing and performance. For those who demand the very latest in HD audio processing and performance, the SR7002 satisfies those needs. Weighing in at a hair over 33lbs, the SR7002 both a beast in power and features. For those wanting all of the new audio decoding for their HD DVD or Blu-ray players, look no further: In addition to Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS Master Audio decoding, the receiver also does SACD via HDMI and THX Select2 processing to boot. That's not all--Other audio decoding done by the SR7002 includes XM HD surround, M-DAX (Marantz Dynamic Audio eXxpander) for compressed audio, Circle II surround, and HDCD decoding as well. It's all here and all done with 192kHz/24-Bit DACs on all eight channels.
Did we mention video? The SR7002 features no less than four HDMI v1.3a inputs and two (switchable) outputs with up-conversion to HDMI with 480i/480p deinterlacing. There's even an on-board TBC (time base corrector) to fix the crawl on those pesky VHS tapes when upconverting to the HDMI or component video outputs. Speaking of outputs, the receiver has four component inputs and two outputs, five S-video and composite inputs and four S-video and three composite outputs respectively. If you own any combination of AV devices you will likely be able to connect them all to the Marantz SR7002.
Rated at an impressive 110 watts, there is more than ample power to drive even the most difficult speakers to ear splitting levels. Utilizing Marantz's current feedback topology amp design and discrete amplification on all seven channels, this receiver is sure to please even the most discriminating listeners. It sure made us sit back and enjoy the music. The receiver has no shortage of both analog and digital audio inputs and outputs, including pre-amp outputs for all channels and even multi-room capability. This receiver does it all.
And of all that is not enough for you, the SR7002 also includes auto setup and room calibration by Auddysey MultiEQ. The Auddysey MultiEQ system will measure and calibrate the sound up to a maximum of six listening positions, unlike the single mic position that is typical of other receivers. This is the very finest audio calibration system available on a receiver or processor, the fact that Marantz has used it is very much appreciated.
As expected, once we had the SR7002 setup and calibrated we were treated to audio bliss with both movies and music. The audio and build quality on this unit are top notch and will give separate amps at any price a run for their money. For someone moving from separates, this receiver won't disappoint, and will no doubt leave many an audio purist surprised by the power and finesse this receiver is capable of. For what it offers for the price, this receiver is a steal.
