Magic Bullet System
Date Published: 4/6/07
The Magic Bullet System is a truly unique and versatile appliance. This unit is in fact an entire system, which functions not only as a food processor, but also as a blender, a juicer, and, for certain tasks, as a mixer. Plus, the handy containers act as cooking and storage accessories as well.
We had a lot of fun testing the Magic Bullet. Since it's capable of performing so many tasks, we were intrigued by each new function we tried. Although some of our tests were major disasters -- we turned several onions to mush in failed chopping attempts; others were an unequivocal success.
This unit comes with a compact high-torque power base, tall and short Bullet cups, a Bullet juicer attachment, four party mugs, resealable lids, shaker/steamer tops, two blade attachments and a 10-second recipe book.
The plastic Bullet cups are microwave-safe so you can cook ingredients before or after processing. This comes in handy when making pureed vegetables or fruit, hot soups, warm dips, pasta sauce and more.
Where the Magic Bullet really shines is with tasks such as blending, ice crushing, grinding and pureeing. The super efficient motor goes right to work pulverizing the contents of the Bullet cup.
Most tasks are completed in 10-30 seconds. And because the unit has multiple party cups, you can make extra batches in record time. Smoothies and frozen drinks are a specialty of the Magic Bullet and a number of recipes are provided.
The Magic Bullet has two blade attachments: a straight blade for whipping cream and grinding hard foods, such as coffee beans and spices, and a cross blade for chopping, grating and blending all parts of ingredients.
The motor is activated by positioning one of the cups on the base and pressing down. Pressing and releasing initiates a pulse-like processing, but a quick twist engages the motor for continuous processing. Because the motor is so efficient, a few seconds is all it takes to achieve thorough results. In fact, the motor is so powerful that it is easy to over process soft foods such as onions and tomatoes, which can quickly turn to mush if you let the motor slip into "lock-on" mode. The Bullet Recipe Book offers a number of tips and hints on how to get the best results.
We found that one of the simplest ways to achieve excellent results was not to overcrowd the work bowl. The unique "cyclonic" mixing action actually tosses ingredients around the work bowl so it's important to leave a bit of air space.
Pros: Performs multiple functions (blender, food processor, mixer, and juicer), multiple attachments, extremely fast performance
Cons: Soft and sticky foods tend to cling to cup and become over processed
