Unless you bought the core system of the Xbox 360, buyers already received an included headset as one of your console accessories. Even if you already have the official headset, you may need a second one for a gaming buddy. MadCatz released their third-party version of the headset, called the Xbox 360 HeadCOM Pro.

The first thing you'll notice about this video game console accessory is that it sells for $5 less than the official headset, a good bargain at $15. The next thing you'll notice is that it doesn't have the mute button and volume control that you'll find on the official counterpart.

If you can do without these controls at your fingertips, the HeadCOM Pro features other design perks that stand out from the original. For starters, the cord on this headset is 30 inches longer than that on the official headset, giving you more room to walk around without taking it off.

It also works with both the original Xbox and the Xbox 360, making it a versatile accessory that original Xbox owners can pick up now and keep with them when they upgrade.

Like the original headset, the HeadCOM Pro is quite comfortable to wear and feels sturdier than the official one--the plastic headpiece is much thicker and feels like it could take a lot of punishment.

The microphone boom swivels around to be worn on either ear. The flexible boom can be adjusted for better voice reception, but it's not as malleable as that on the original.Audio was clear in both directions, with good voice transmission and reception during Xbox Live gaming.

MadCatz offers a lengthy five-year limited warranty on the HeadCOM Pro, so you know that you're protected if anything goes wrong. While not an improvement on the original headset, MadCatz Xbox 360 HeadCOM Pro offers cost savings and some appreciable changes in this video game console accessory.
