Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Optical Laser Mouse

Date Published: 12/20/06

The Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Optical Laser Mouse has a long-lasting rechargeable battery, and these are just some of its basic features. When you are looking for innovative input devices, you should first think of Logitech. Case in point is the unique Logitech MX Revolution mouse.

This MX Revolution offers a novel scroll wheel with two different modes. A standard click-to-click mode gets you through documents and websites at a readable pace, but if you want to jump down several pages (or several dozen), just give the wheel a strong spin. The scroll wheel automatically shifts to the free-spin mode to reach the bottom of a lengthy document rapidly, and you can quickly switch between modes by depressing the wheel. Some users may find this option more revolutionary than others, but it works quite well if you view lots of long documents.

The MX Revolution also offers a handy One-Touch Search button just below the scroll wheel. All you have to do is highlight a word or phrase and click the button, and a search results window will open in your favorite search engine. Of course, you need to set the search engine the first time you employ this feature. We found ourselves using this button a lot.

Another wheel set in the thumb groove along the side of the MX Revolution offers two options, a document quick-flip and a zoom function. The quick-flip works like alt-tabbing between open applications or even multiple files open in the same application, while the zoom function lets you enlarge or shrink text in documents and web pages as well as zoom in and out of photos you are viewing.

While all these features are great, how does the MX Revolution function as an input device? The answer is very well. The thumb curves mean this mouse is right-handed only, but it is very comfortable even when used for extended periods of time. We found it to be extremely accurate for gaming and general cursor control.

Gone are the days when a rechargeable mouse could be cordless or optical but not both. Technology has improved to the point where the MX Revolution lasts for well over a week on a single charge, and a handy battery indicator keeps you posted on how much life is left.

At $100, Logitech's MX Revolution isn't an inexpensive input device, but it is quite a innovative one. The "Revolution" moniker is apt.
