LifeSpan PRO3

The LifeSpan PRO3 treadmill is sold as both a residential and commercial piece of fitness equipment, and this is reflected in the quality of its construction. The PRO3 is built using commercial-grade components and backed by an impressive warranty. In fact, for us, the only major downside of this treadmill is that it does not offer enough extra features over the LifeSpan PRO1 to justify the extra cost.
The reversible deck of the PRO3 offers the largest running surface in its class at 60 inches in length and a whopping 22 inches in width. The 3-inch rollers are also larger than most competing models; larger rollers means fewer rotations and, in theory at least, a longer life. The 3-horsepower continuous-duty DC motor delivers speeds ranging from 0.5 to 12 mph, rising at 0.5 mph increments. It also offers 15 incline levels. We find that the PRO3 delivers a smooth and comfortable workout. At 286 pounds, it is a heavy machine, but that weight contributes to a very stable piece of equipment. Even tall, heavy users running at maximum speed will find that the PRO3 delivers a safe, comfortable workout.
The console on this treadmill features four windows, so readouts such as speed, incline, distance, time, calories burned and heart rate are displayed simultaneously; this allows you to monitor your workouts in detail. The PRO3 also offers a good selection of program workouts; these include five speed programs, five incline workouts, 5k and 10k runs and two custom modes, as well as two target heart rate programs and a target body mass index mode. The body mass analysis function tracks both your metabolic rate and body fat percentage. Heart rate is monitored by using the handgrip sensors or by using the included chest strap for hands-free monitoring.
As impressive as the performance of the LifeSpan PRO3 is, however, we think that the company's PRO1 offers better value. If you need the extra wide running surface, have the available space to house this treadmill and can afford the price, the LifeSpan PRO3 will deliver a health club-quality workout in your home.
Pros: Commercial-grade construction, powerful motor, huge running surface, excellent warranty
Cons: Large, heavy, not as good a value as the PRO1
