LG Electronics Tromm Steam Washer WM2688H
Date Published: 4/27/07
The LG Electronics Tromm Steam Washer WM2688H is getting lots of attention for its revolutionary steam concept. Using steam in the wash cycle, this machine saves dramatically on usage of both water and electricity. Since so little water is used, far less energy is expended in heating it. In fact, so little water is used that you may need to strain a bit to see any in the bottom of the tub.
Also generating excitement on this front-loading model is the 20-minute steam refresh cycle that replaces trips to the dry cleaner or at the very least extends the wear time of dry cleaned clothing. Prompted in part by the success of the Dryel product used in dryers, this system moves dry cleanables to the washing machine for a bit of steam refreshing. And to top it off, the steam refresh cycle is as useful for removing wrinkles from washables as it is from dry-clean only fabrics.
With two steam models to choose from, we recommend you take a closer look at the only one with an Energy Star rating -- the WM2688H. The second model is the WM2687H and it is priced lower, but it doesn't offer the automatic temperature selection that ensures the conservation benefits of the WM2688H.
A solid, well-built model, the WM2688H offers many of the features we look for in a premium front-load washer: a stainless-steel drum, a large 4.0 cubic feet of capacity and an extensive selection of nine cycles. In addition, this model boasts the fully digital controls not offered on the less expensive model.
The design of the Tromm washer is outstanding. As attractive as any high-end washer, this model is good looking enough to be placed in any room of your home. The WM2688H comes in blue or white , while the WM2687H can be purchased in red or white. All are stackable and hinged on the left. Optional pedestals are available to raise the washer and provide additional storage.
Reports from users thus far on LG's steam washer WM2688H are very encouraging. But keep in mind that none of these units have been in use for very long, so long term data is as yet unavailable.
