LG Electronics LTM9000 Microwave Oven with Toaster

Date Published: 7/11/07

Attractive and versatile, the 0.9-cubic-foot LG Electronics LTM9000 Microwave Oven with Toaster allows you to do both microwaving and toasting in the same amount of space usually occupied by just one of these appliances. Novel and convenient, this unit gives you great space-saving convenience, but be forewarned that with this unit you won't get quite the performance of either a top-notch microwave or toaster.

While the microwave oven itself performs quite well, it is the automated programs that are a bit cumbersome to use. Unlike the preferred sensor-type system, the program on LG's LTM9000 requires you to scroll through a list of foods to reach your selection. This process is time consuming and relies on a less effective heating method than is found on a sensor-equipped model.

When it comes to toasting, most users will find the results satisfactory, although we did note in our testing that occasionally some breads toasted a bit unevenly. Toasting the sometimes-bulky bagel, however was not a problem. The toaster mechanism on the LTM9000 is plenty large enough to handle these often plump breakfast items.

Interestingly enough and frustrating to some is the fact that with this model you can't use both the toaster and microwave oven at the same time. We also found it a bit frustrating that the microwave adjusts in 10-second increments only. This may not seem like a big deal, but 10 seconds of microwave time can make a big difference in whether a food is under or overcooked. For most accurate microwaving results, we like to see an oven that can be programmed in 1-second intervals.

An interesting space-saving concept, LG's LTM9000 definitely has its place in a small kitchen. Just be prepared for the little inconveniences that come along with this tempting little hybrid.

Pros: Two appliances in the space of one, looks great on the counter
Cons: Like most hybrid appliances, some of the best performance of each individual appliance is lost

Warranty
1 year, full; 10 years, magnetron tube
