The first thing you will notice about the LG Electronics' 30FS4D, a 30-inch wide-format HDTV, is its extra-slim CRT design. This assumes the TV isn't on, of course, because otherwise you will only have eyes for the excellent picture quality. The 30FS4D's features and design are more akin to its LCD competitors that traditional CRT televisions, and it has plenty of input and output options for connecting home theater and other components.

The picture is exceptionally bright and clear on the 1,980X1,080 screen, and a 3-D Y/C digital comb filter and a choice of seven picture presets ensure an accurate image configured to you preferences. Movies are assisted by 3:2 pulldown, which eliminates the uneven motion introduced in the film-to-video conversion process. Built-in ATSC (high-definition), NTSC (standard-definition) and QAM (digital cable) tuners potentially allow you to view HDTV and unscrambled digital cable programming without additional hardware.

The stereo speakers produce a total of 20 watts of audio output, and the 30FS4D offers simulated surround sound and automatic volume leveling. The 30FS4D has a long list of convenience features, including favorite channel memory, sleep and on timers, a choice of six audio presets and closed captions on mute.

The 30FS4D has composite video and S-video inputs on the side panel for the quick connection of a camcorder, video game console or other component. The more extensive rear panel offers two RF inputs, two more composite video inputs, another S-video input, two component video inputs, an HDMI digital-to-digital input, an optical digital audio input/output, a composite video output and a variable audio output. A universal remote control is included in the package.
