LG Electronics 30-Inch Gas Range LRG30355

Date Published: 11/7/07

The LG Electronics LRG30355 gas range is becoming a common showpiece at many appliance stores, and with good reason. Dealers are placing it where it can be seen because they know it's attractive, packed with features and priced right.

Starting at a suggested price of $1,300 and with a stainless version at $1,500, the LRG30355 is a particularly good value. Plenty of similar ranges are available in stainless steel, but few are as solidly built as the LRG30355.

LG has also loaded the LRG30355 with features. We particularly like the five surface burners, and if you do a lot of stovetop cooking, you'll find the extra burner very convenient for keeping food warm or for whipping up an additional item, like a creamy sauce. You'll also appreciate the 16,500-Btu Super Boil burner, which is great for rapid boiling as well as other high-heat tasks like searing and stir-frying.

Perhaps our favorite feature of LRG30355 is the handy three-temperature warming drawer. After experiencing the convenience of this feature, you won't want to go back to a basic warming drawer. The drawer is a great place to keep dishes toasty when friends bring favorites to add to big gatherings, and putting them in the drawer doesn't interrupt the preparation of the main meal.

The remaining features of the LRG30355 are typical of what you'll find in this category and price range. The oven is large, with a delay bake, an audible preheat signal and a self-cleaning cycle. Our only concern is that the LG's service network is not very well developed. If you live in a rural area, your service options may be few and far between.

The LRG30355 is a good value for a freestanding gas range, and it becomes even better when you realize that many dealers offer it well below the suggested retail price. With its great features and build quality, as well as the attractive pricing, the LG Electronics LRG30355 is likely to continue as a strong seller.

Pros: Solid build quality, five burners include one Super Boil burner, three-temperature warming drawer, can often be found selling for far less than suggested price
Cons: LG Electronics' service network lacks the coverage of more established brands
