Lexmark P350
Date Published: 11/1/07The Lexmark P350 is a next-generation photo printer; it replaces the aging P315, Lexmark's first dedicated photo processing system. With many notable improvements over the P315, the Lexmark P350 has a lot going for it.
The P350 is easily portable, although it lacks a battery option for true portability. Capable of producing prints up to 4x8 in size, the P350 can print from memory cards or PictBridge-compatible digital cameras. It can also print directly from laptop and desktop computers via USB.
The 2.4-inch LCD is large enough to comfortably preview images, which is a welcome change from the P315. Lexmark also took a giant step forward with new inks and papers that produce waterproof, smudge-resistant prints, a must when you're printing on the run.
The P350 has a familiar lunchbox shape, with a handy carrying arm that folds out of the way when the printer is in use. When the handle is out of the way, the front panel and LCD combine to provide a very good menu system that lets you select the photo you want to print, as well as perform basic editing functions, including reducing redeye, cropping and adjusting brightness. If you prefer, you can select the automatic correction mode, and let the P350 adjust each photo to look its best.
Overall output quality is good, especially when printing from a computer, where you can fine tune photos using dedicated image editing software. The supplied editing tools are too basic for our taste, but they're acceptable for quick prints on the road, when you're too impatient to wait until you get back home. With a good original image, output quality is correspondingly good, with good detail, uniform color saturation, and few if any print artifacts.
The Lexmark P350 is a dedicated photo printer that delivers satisfactory print quality. It works equally well on a desktop or on the road, as long as you're within reach of a power source.
Pro: Improved ink and paper provide waterproof, smudge-resistant prints, large LCD for comfortable image viewing, good output quality.
Con: Single tricolor ink cartridge, limited image editing functions, slow output speeds, no battery option.
