Lawn-Boy Insight 10685 self-propelled gas mower
Date Published: 3/28/08
It only took us one mowing session with the Lawn-Boy Insight 10685 self-propelled gas mower to experience first-hand what the attraction to this mower is all about. This model comes equipped with several great features that make it dependable and easy to use. For starters, Lawn-Boy's 3-in-1 cutting system allows the user to switch between mulching, side-discharging or rear-bagging setups in seconds. We also love the innovative design of the Hi-Vac Easy Lift Bag, which, by the way, does not include the typical trap door found on most other mowers. (Should you decide to switch from mulching to side-discharging mode, a mulch plate quickly snaps in place to perform the function of a trap door.) Removing and replacing the bag is uncomplicated and very easy to do with just one hand; this is a feature that you'll really appreciate if you ever bag your clippings.
One of the first things we noticed when using this unit was its comfort. Lawn-Boy has put a lot of thought into this design; the recoil starter, for example, is oversized, padded and very easy to pull. The fact that this starter is set high on the handles makes it easily accessible. The handle features a padded grip with a single easy-to-reach knob that allows you to adjust the handle height to fit users of any size. When mowing season comes to a close, a simple step-on lever quickly folds the handles flat for space-saving storage in a garage or tool shed. We also like the smooth performance of the large radius wheels, which make it easy to maneuver on grass. What's more, getting a close trim on either side of the deck is simple thanks to inset wheels that allow you to mow extremely close to beds, edging and other obstacles.
The Insight 10685 features the Sens-a-Speed system, an impressive state-of-the-art self-propel system that automatically senses and adjusts the mower to your walking speed (up to 5mph). This system couldn't be simpler to use -- just place your hands on the handlebar and start walking. Some users have reported a tendency for the mower to lurch forward when pushed too hard from a stop, but we find that the Sens-a-Speed system provides an easy transition that makes the need to push a lever or squeeze a handle to change speeds a soon-to-be-forgotten memory.
From its lightweight maneuverability and user-friendly features to its well-equipped performance, the Lawn-Boy Insight 10685 self-propelled gas mower exceeds our expectations.
