Lawn-Boy Insight 10666 self-propelled gas mower

Date Published: 3/17/08

Lawn-Boy's top-of-the-line Insight 10666 self-propelled gas mower combines the user-friendly features and durability found in all Insight models with several premium perks.

One such perk is the electric starter; the oversized foam grip recoil starting system that comes standard on all Lawn-Boy mowers is great on it's own, but having an electric starter is a convenience we appreciate, especially when mowing during cooler weather or after an extended period of non-use.

A high-performance Briggs & Stratton 6.75-foot-pound gross torque engine powers this machine; it starts easily with one or two pulls. In addition to its brawn, this unit also comes with brains in the form of the rear-wheel-drive Sens-a-Speed self-propel system, which intuitively senses your walking speed and automatically adjusts the speed of the motor to match (up to 5 miles per hour). There is no lever to push or handle to squeeze -- just put your hands on the handlebar and started walking. We also like how this drive makes easy work of hills, bumpy terrain and large lawns.

Like many self-propelled mowers, this machine can effectively mulch, side-discharge or rear-bag grass clippings, but what really surprises us is the ease with which it switches between cutting modes; there's no spring-loaded trap door with which to contend. The rear bag lifts quickly with just one hand and easily drops right back into place. When you want to switch to the side-discharge cutting mode, a mulch plate quickly snaps into position. What's more, the Insight 10666 produces high-quality mulch.

One of our favorite features of this mower is the quick-stow lever that allows for its compact storage. One step on the lever folds the handles in a 90-degree position, while two steps causes the handles to fold completely flat; there's even a place to hang the bag on the handle. Other user-friendly features include a handle that quickly adjusts to any user's height and height adjusters on the mowing deck that are easy on the hands.

If you're looking for a mower with innovative features, a user-friendly package and excellent performance, we recommend that you take Lawn Boy's Insight 10666 self-propelled gas mower for a spin.

Pros: Electric starter, Sens-a-Speed rear-wheel drive system, 3-in-1 cutting system, easy-lift bag, step-on lever for space-saving storage, ergonomic design
Cons: Individual deck height adjusters on each wheel
