The KiddyGuard Retractable Gate from Lascal is an idea whose time has come. We like this feature-rich gate and find it adequately protects children up to 24 months of age. The gate is particularly useful in doorways and stairways (up to 51 inches wide) because it requires only minimum space to operate. In fact, the gate expands to fit the space to be blocked, then retracts into itself when opened -- rather than swinging to one side. This feature is especially helpful in narrow walkways. We find the gate performs as promised when it comes to one-handed operation. As any parent whose child has discovered that a swinging gate makes a great toy can attest, the ability to have a gate like the retractable KiddyGuard that locks--whether in "opened" or "closed" mode--is definitely a sanity-saver. Plus, the KiddyGuard installs easily in or beside doorway or stairway openings. We love the fact that there is hardware included for installing the gate onto a variety of different surfaces. Overall, the KiddyGuard Retractable Gate is made of sturdy materials, performs well, and saves space--all features that earn it good marks.
