Krups Mini Chopper GVA2

Date Published: 4/5/07

The Krups Mini Chopper GVA2 offers superb performance in a compact housing.

This unit is taller than most mini choppers, standing 9.5 inches tall when fully assembled. A powerful 300-watt motor is housed in the stylish white and silver base. The clear 24-ounce work bowl twist-locks in place atop the base and the locking cover acts as the unit's "on" button.

The blade on this unit deserves special mention. It is a standard "S" chopping blade; however, a thin saber-like design gives it an edge over other choppers. It made short work of difficult tasks, such as mincing an onion and chopping parsley. We were also impressed at how well it did with soft mushroom pieces, which can easily turn to mush.

The pressure-activated lid is easy to use. A simple touch and release starts the blade spinning. The pulse action is extremely effective in chopping, grinding, mincing and pureeing an assortment of ingredients. For continuous processing, you can hold the button down.

The Krups Mini Chopper GVA2 also comes with an emulsifying disk, which can be used to chop small amounts of cream or egg whites or to emulsify mayonnaise; you also get a plastic spatula for scraping the work bowl.

Although the stated work bowl capacity is 24 ounces, the bowl markings specify a maximum of 12 ounces or 1-1/2 cups because the go only halfway up the bowl. The processing is so quick; you will be able to do multiple tasks in a fraction of the time it would take by hand.

Another nice design feature is the sealed, spill-proof lid. A thick rubber seal fits inside the lid to keep liquids inside the work bowl where they belong. The power cord, which is a generous 44 inches long, can be wound underneath the base for concealed storage.

All in all, we loved the design of the Krups Mini Chopper. While it is a bit pricier than other models, users won't be disappointed.

Pros: Powerful 300-watt motor, 12-ounce usable capacity, bonus emulsifying disc
Cons: A bit pricier than other models
