KitchenAid KUDI02CR Built-In Dishwasher

Date Published: 6/22/06

A variation on the entry-level KitchenAid dishwasher, the KUDI02CR adds the manufacturer's signature Architect Series door and handle design to the basic model. Adding about $70 to the price tag for a simple door change is a bit much in our opinion, but if you absolutely love the door--go for it. The model is certainly a solidly built unit offering excellent value. The commercial grade stainless-steel interior is hard to find in this price range, other than perhaps in a basic Bosch unit, which also warrants consideration. Since stainless steel is rapidly becoming the new standard for high-quality dishwasher interiors, adding this to your wish list certainly makes sense, providing your budget can bear the cost.

The features on this model are fairly standard for entry-level to mid-range models. On the KUDI02CR you'll find three cycles with five wash options--all controlled by a state-of-the-art sensor system that adjusts water usage to the level of soil found in the load. An efficient operation system, the sensor method takes advantage of available technology to control water and power usage, which in this case has earned the model a Federal Energy Star rating for resource conservation.

Unlike some KitchenAid models in this price range, this model offers a sani-cycle. Simply put, the sani-cycle heats up the final rinse to 160 degrees Fahrenheit--an effective temperature for bacteria removal. While not warranted in every home, this cycle may serve an important purpose for baby bottles or medicine cups used frequently by the chronically ill. Offered in black, white, or stainless-steel exteriors, you can expect to pay a $100 up-charge for the stainless-steel model.

Pro: updated door design, stainless interior, quiet operation, sani-cycle
Con: Architect door design adds $70 to the cost
