KitchenAid KGSS907SSS slide-in gas range

Date Published: 12/17/07

KitchenAid ranges are one of our perennial favorites and the KGSS907SSS is no exception to this rule. In fact, it's difficult for us to decide which we like better -- the versatile stovetop or the first-rate convection oven.

Although we're impressed with the oven, KitchenAid has offered ovens of this caliber for a long time. Undoubtedly the most innovative aspect of the KGSS907SSS is its stovetop. What catches our eye here is the new TripleTier burner located on the left, front side. Like all the burners on a typical commercial-style range, this burner has an output of 600 to 15,000 Btu. This is the burner to use for any challenging cooking tasks. It will produce a quick boil or snappy sear, or hold an ultra-low simmer as long as needed. The disadvantage, of course, is that you cannot use both the highest output and lowest output burners at the same time. And the other burners offer only the standard set of 12,500 Btu and 6,000 Btu.

An upgraded burner isn't the only exciting new feature atop this stove. In addition to the triple tier burner, one of the grates has undergone a particularly useful transformation. Instead of a simple one-sided flat grate, the new InstaWok grate is reversible and can be used on both sides. It is a typical grate on one side, but when you flip it over it is a concave grate that allows you to stir-fry in the wok of your choice -- so you don't even need model-specific accessory wok. We like the option of choosing a wok in any size or configuration based on what we're preparing. The KGSS907SSS gives you the choice and the control.

With an eye-catching design, this KitchenAid model slides seamlessly between cabinets and adds sophistication to any kitchen. It boasts and an excellent self-cleaning convection oven that is equipped with an extra interior light. This may be a simple addition, but it's one that makes it much easier for you to check on the foods you're baking, without disturbing them.

Overall, we recommend this well-built slide-in gas range. The KitchenAid KGSS907SSS may cost a bit more, but the quality and performance make this model an excellent choice.

Pros: One upgraded triple tier burner, instawok grate, excellent convection oven
Cons: Triple tier available on only one burner
