KitchenAid 12-Cup Food Processor KFP750

Date Published: 4/5/07

The KitchenAid 12-Cup Food Processor KFP750 absolutely exudes power.

This impressive machine comes with numerous accessories that provide a full range of processing capability. You get a heavy-duty power base, large 12-cup transparent work bowl with cover and dual feed chute/food pusher, stainless-steel chopping blade, plastic dough blade, fine and medium slicing discs, medium shredding disc, 4-cup mini work bowl and mini chopping blade, and plastic spatula. All of the accessories are stored in a handy plastic case for easy access.

We loved the look of this machine, which is available in six colors: black, blue, red, white, cinnamon, and chrome. The smooth, rounded base has three touchpad controls: On, Off and Pulse. A simple touch activates the motor instantly in either continuous motion or burst or power for optimum results. The 700-watt motor on this unit is one of the most powerful in its class, yet surprisingly quiet.

This unit stands 17 inches tall when fully assembled and has an 8.25-inch by 10.5-inch footprint. Four rubber feet help keep the unit positioned on the counter.

Assembly and disassembly of the KFP750 was quite easy. The work bowl locks onto the base with a simple twist. We did need two hands to lift the bowl off the base and had to exert a little extra effort the first few times since the bowl was tightly positioned. The more we lifted and reinserted the bowl, the easier it got. The cover also locks onto the work bowl in a separate step. Both parts must be properly attached before the motor can be engaged. We found the work bowl to be a bit heavier than others in this class, partly due to its larger size and partly due to extra thick plastic construction. The bowl weighs about 1.75 pounds when empty.

The mini chopping bowl accessory is a handy addition. We liked being able to chop a single onion or a few garlic cloves in the smaller bowl. The second work bowl is also convenient when preparing multi-step recipes, since smaller chores can be done in the mini bowl before finishing the entire recipe in the larger bowl.

We tackled two types of bread dough in the KFP750, including the country white bread recipe found in the instruction booklet and a dinner roll recipe from a separate cookbook. Both doughs were well blended and completed in short order -- about 1-1/2 minutes. The stickier dinner roll recipe did cling to the blade and sides of the processor, causing the machine to rock quite a bit on the counter. We found the key to successful dough is to add dry ingredients to the work bowl, and then pour the warm liquid through the feed tube while the machine is running. Using that method results in a nicely formed ball that lifts out of the work bowl with ease.

Other common tasks, such as slicing, shredding, chopping and pureeing, are quickly and efficiently accomplished using the KFP750. The Pulse control on this machine takes a bit longer to stop and allow the contents to settle. Nevertheless, we achieved uniform pieces in a fraction of the time it would have taken to do the same task by hand. The processor is great for blending smooth soups and sauces. Just be sure not to overfill the work bowl. The liquid capacity for this machine is about 4 cups.

We liked the easy feed tube design and, although it could not accommodate whole tomatoes, apples and potatoes, it could do half slices of those vegetables, as well as full slices of cucumbers, carrots and smaller produce items. Since there is no pusher interlock, you can put extra-tall items, such as carrots or celery, into the tube without first cutting them in half. The pusher should be used to move the foods through the tube. The two slicing blades offer a choice of thin (2 mm) or medium (4 mm) slices.

All in all, this is a terrific machine that can handle all your food processing tasks with quiet ease.

Pros: Quiet operation, extra-large capacity, powerful 700-watt motor, touchpad controls, storage case for discs and accessories, mini chopping bowl accessory
Cons: Larger machine requires more counter and/or storage space
