The first commercial typewriter, called the Remington Number 1, was designed by Christopher Sholes and used the "QWERTY" keyboard we are all familiar with. Most optical mice use a small, red light-emitting diode (LED) that bounces light off that surface onto a complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) sensor.
