Kenwood Excelon KVT-915DVD

Date Published: 1/8/08

The KVT-915DVD CD/DVD player/receiver is designed for serious in-car audio/video entertainment. It packs an amazing number of features in its 1-DIN silver and ebony chassis (with help from an interconnecting hideaway unit).

The disc transport can play DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-R, DVD-RW, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3- and WMA-encoded discs. It can handle a variety of signals from these discs, including Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound. When powered, its seven-inch wide (16:9 aspect ratio) fully motorized LCD slides out of the chassis and folds to its upright viewing position. The screen displays a variety of operational menus.

The KVT-915DVD’s touchscreen control makes it easy to use its graphical interface, and a wireless remote is included as well. The system can also be operated with the video screen closed. Although many users will elect to employ more powerful external amplifiers, the system provides four channels rated at 50 watts and one 47-watt center channel speaker amplifier. There are many perks onboard, including the System Q EX Sound Control with five preset equalization curves, System E's + Advanced Crossover System, digital time alignment, listening position selector, vehicle-type presets (car or truck), and dual-zone control, as well as five DSP acoustical environment listening modes.

The tuner provides 18 FM and 6 AM presets. For security, the faceplate is removable, and there is a programmable security code system. The KVT-915DVD even offers a built-in TV tuner for receiving VHF broadcast channels 2 to 13 and UHF channels 14 to 69. Finally, the system can interface with a Sirius satellite radio receiver and a Kenwood Music Keg hard-disk drive. This is a flagship product that will provide the best in mobile entertainment.
