Date Published: 1/9/08
Have you ever been in your car and realized that your audio system would be perfect if only you had just a little more bass boost from your amplifier? The newest line of amplifiers and head units from Kenwood Excelon takes care of this problem.
The Kenwood Excelon KAC-X521 is rated at 165 watts into two channels. This is a CEA-2006 rating, so it complies with the standard that measures into 4 ohms at 14.4 volts, 20Hz to 20kHz with 1.0-percent THD+N. It can be configured as a bridged mono or stereo full-range amplifier, or it just as easily can be used as a subwoofer amplifier, with an overall frequency response of 5Hz to 70kHz.
The KAC-X521 has a very masculine look, with Kenwood's Wind Tunnel Cooling featured prominently on the top surface. There is an amplifier control section that can be accessed from controls on the top surface or through a connection to a compatible Kenwood Excelon head unit.
The amplifier control will display and adjust bass and treble boost or cut, with selectable gain, frequency, and overall level, and it will indicate operating current, cooling fan speed, and temperature. In addition, there are low-pass and high-pass filters that are not software controlled.
The Kenwood Excelon KAC-X521 is a very versatile amplifier, especially if you have a compatible Kenwood Excelon head unit.
