Kenmore HE2t 3.7-Cubic-Foot Front-Loading Washer
Date Published: 8/6/08
One of the Best Buys in the energy-efficient front-loading washer category, Kenmore's HE2t (models 47561, 47571, 47567, 47577) packs in plenty of features while keeping the price out of the stratosphere.
Produced for Sears by Whirlpool, the HE2t is comparable in price and features to Whirlpool's Duet Sport. Like the Duet Sport, this model is a good choice for upstairs installations due to its advanced suspension that limits vibration. Although the vibration is limited, the HE2t is still a bit noisier than both Kenmore's HE3t and HE5t models, which offer more sound insulation.
With a capacity of 3.7 cubic feet, this model is just slightly smaller than the 4.0-cubic-foot models. In terms of daily use, this size difference doesn't affect the amount of clothing that will fit in this machine. For this reason, we suggest you select your front-loading model based on other factors such as suspension, features and price -- not on capacity.
The HE2t offers more cycles and options than a typical top-loading washer. It offers features such as Silk, Handwash and Sanitary Wash to give you more options when doing the wash. The HE2t also has its own water heater. Like all high-efficiency front-loaders, this model stands out for its minimal use of water. It also uses less electricity than a traditional top-loader and less energy than front-loaders equipped with onboard water heaters.
We like the controls that Kenmore has selected for this model. Likely to be more reliable than more complex versions, this system uses a simplified control panel with push pads in place of audio-visual controls. Although not as service-free as are old-fashioned dials, these controls are still a nice compromise.
Far more efficient than the old top-loading washers, yet moderately priced, the Kenmore HE2t is an exceptionally good value in the front-loading washer category. Available at Sears as models 47561, 47571, 47567 and 47577, the HE2t comes in your choice of white or an attractive and unique Pacific Blue.
Pros: Good for upstairs installations, excellent value
Cons: Lacks onboard water heater and some one-touch cycles, not the quietest but reasonably good for the price
