Kenmore 79627 freestanding gas range
Date Published: 7/30/08
Sears has really outdone itself with its Kenmore 79627 dual-fuel range. This 36-inch commercial-style dual-fuel model offers more features than better-known brands and sports a relatively enticing price tag, provided you consider the class of product with which you're dealing.
Hotter than this range's rich red color is its primary burner's 18,000-Btu output. The secondary burner is almost as powerful, offering 16,200 Btu; this is an output that's equal to the highest-output burner of many other ranges. Obviously, this is a range with incredible cooking power; for example, it's easy to prepare two stir-fry dishes at once or quickly boil water for pasta while searing meat.
As impressive as the burners is the expansive electric convection oven below. It boasts an incredible capacity of 6.8 cubic feet, so there's not much that can't be prepared inside. And unlike many commercial-grade ovens, this one cleans itself while you move on to other things.
While cooking power is an important consideration for many buyers, a range that's easy to clean excites our experts just as much. In addition to the aforementioned self-cleaning oven, the 79627 offers easy-cleaning sealed burners; there are no messy drip bowls to clean, nor are there any pullout trays that require frequent attention.
The 79627's electronic controls, clock and timer provide the conveniences of a residential range without compromising professional style. In fact, we're pleased with everything about this range, with the exception of the price; although it's reasonable by commercial standards, the manufacturer's suggested retail price still seems like a lot to drop on a gas stove.
