Kenmore 75101 air conditioner
Date Published: 5/16/08
The Kenmore 75101 is a 10,000-Btu air conditioner designed for window installation. Accordion-style panels on either side make it easier to mount it in various window sizes. However, because it tips the scale at a hefty 79 pounds, installing this unit is definitely a two- (or three) person job.
We like the easy-to-remove air filter; it is reusable and won't need to be replaced for the lifetime of the unit. The Kenmore 75101 has three fan speeds and an energy saver option that turns off the compressor when the desired temperature is achieved. Like most window units, this model has a white exterior, which makes it an unobtrusive addition to most rooms. Although the manufacturer lists it for single-room use, we found it could cool more than one room with ease. Because it reaches the optimum temperature fairly quickly, it could easily maintain a comfortable temperature in the Energy Saver mode. There are electric controls on the unit that act as a thermostat and allow the user to select a fan speed, operation mode or timer.
We also like the remote control. It allows one to raise or lower the desired temperature, change the fan speed, set the timer or adjust the operation mode. We prefer a remote with an LCD display, but this one worked as well as we expected. The Kenmore 75101's warranty is impressive as it includes a full 1-year warranty and a 5-year sealed system warranty. This is a longer warranty than some manufacturers offer. Overall, we were happy with the way this model functions; it has plenty of cooling power, and although it is marketed as a single room air conditioner, we believe it can be used to control the climate in multiple rooms if they are part of an open floor plan. It isn't the quietest air conditioner we've tested, but it certainly isn't the loudest, either. We give the Kenmore 75101 good marks for performance and a reasonable price.
Pros: Price, control
Cons: Remote lacks LCD
