Kenmore 75051 air conditioner
Date Published: 5/1/07
For small rooms that need cooling, the Kenmore 75051 air conditioner is a good value. In addition, it is Energy Star compliant, meaning that it costs 10 percent less to operate than similar units without the rating. Its limitation is that, at 5,300 Btu/hr, the 75051 can efficiently cool rooms only up to about 150 square feet (10x15 feet) in size. If that's enough for your application then this unit is a smart choice. Remember, though, that if your room has high ceilings or the unit will be in a south-facing window, it will not cool as easily as a room with lower ceilings or a room without southern exposure.
Sold exclusively through Sears, the Kenmore 75051 has standard electronic controls: thermostat, setpoint, modes and two fan speeds mounted on the control touchpad. In addition, the unit has a 12-hour delay timer so it can be preset to begin cooling just before you come home.
The 75051 also includes a dehumidifier that can remove up to 36 pints of moisture from the air each day. Excess moisture from this window-mounted unit exits through a drain port.
What is most impressive is the price: $139.99 retail. This unit is frequently on sale early and late in the local cooling season for $10 to $25 off. For small rooms, the Kenmore 75051 is a cost-effective room air conditioner and dehumidifier that can keep you cool for less money.
Pros: Energy Star compliant, easy to install, includes dehumidifier, good value
Cons: only for smaller rooms, may be noisy depending on installation
Warranty
1 year, parts and labor; 5 years, sealed system
