Kenmore 68842 electric dryer
Date Published: 3/18/08
One of the largest traditionally styled dryers, the Kenmore 68842 offers a 7.5-cubic-foot interior that matches the capacity of the largest, super-capacity front-loaders. And while large enough to handle even a comforter, this model won't set you back nearly as much hard-earned cash as one of those newer models.
The technology of this model, like its capacity, is modeled after the newer-style front-loading dryers. Featuring an interior equipped with moisture sensing strips, this dryer constantly monitors the clothing inside. When a sufficient amount of moisture has been removed from fabrics, the heat shuts off, preventing shrinkage and other damage caused by over-drying.
Over-drying isn't the only undesirable that gets added attention from the Kenmore 68842. Wrinkling is also reduced thanks to Kenmore's Wrinkle Guard III feature. This feature works by continuing to tumble clothing even after the heat has shut off. When clothing is kept moving it prevents set-in wrinkles, so if you are often late to unload the dryer, this feature is essential.
Multiple drying cycles and five temperatures make this model a versatile machine that can handle all your needs, from ultra-delicates to heavy cottons. The Kenmore 68842 comes in white, but like the expensive front-loaders, a designer color is also available; in this case the option is Pacific Blue (model 68847). A gas version of this model is also offered.
A spacious dryer that makes plenty of sense, this unit offers the best features of the newer-styled models, but at a fraction of the cost. If you don't mind a traditional cabinet in your laundry room, Kenmore's 68842 is a high-tech, cost-efficient solution to the dryer dilemma and one that can even be had in a nice blue color if you so choose.
Pros: Spacious interior, sensor equipped, wrinkle-guard, offered in white or blue, moderately priced
Cons: Lacks the dramatic design of the new front-loaders
