Sometimes you need a tent to climb Everest. Sometimes you need a tent for a weekend outing. The Kelty Trail Dome 4 is the latter.

It is designed to sleep a family of four while providing good weather protection. Moreover, unlike many other family tents, this one has an average packed weight of less than 9 pounds. Partly, this is achieved with a relatively lower ceiling height than is found on most family tents.

The tent is pitched with two DAC DA17 aluminum poles and two fiberglass brow poles. The canopy has large mesh areas in the walls and ceiling for good summertime ventilation, and the floor has waterproof seams that are raised off the ground to further reduce water leakage. The canopy is attached to the poles with clips; these are color-coded for easy handling.

There is one large door. The rainfly is UV resistant and maintains a taut pitch that sheds water. Its seams are also factory taped for waterproofing. There are guyout points for added stability. Inside, the tent has hang loops and storage pockets. This tent provides all the basic shelter you are likely to need on a family outing; moreover, its light weight make it easy to carry, and it is easy to set up.

Given its construction and features, and low price, the Kelty Trail Dome 4 is an excellent value tent.
