Kelty Quartz 2 four-season tent
Date Published: 5/16/06
The Kelty Quartz 2 four-season tent offers a lot of tent for the money. It is not as rugged as some mountaineering tents, but it will allow four-season camping with a lightweight setup.
This freestanding tent is based on two long poles that overlap across the top; peak height is somewhat low. The canopy is attached with vaulted pole sleeves that provide strength while allowing ventilation between the canopy and rainfly. Trusses are used at pole intersection points for added strength. Stability is further improved with stakeout tendons that connect the canopy and rainfly.
There are two doors, a relative luxury in a two-person tent, and two large vestibules as well. There are mesh panels that can be closed as well as rainfly vents for airflow. The rainfly uses polyester that is UV resistant, and there are windows in the front vestibule. The floor uses waterproof seams that are up off the ground. Inside, there are gear loft loops and pockets for storage.
Unless you are tackling K2, this tent should suffice for most purposes. The Kelty Quartz 2is a simple tent that will accommodate two backpackers in moderate weather in four seasons.
